A Fleeting Ripple

currently inked: week 2 of 2025

06/01/2025 – 12/01/2025

My series on weekly carry pens is making a comeback, hopefully to stay this time! A manageable 6 fountain pen rotation in a Galen Leather pen case to be carried around or set on my desk. One extra pen for my planner, and one extra pen to throw into my bag. 8 pens for a week should be enough, right? That gives two limits to this post: 8 pens to write about and 2 sentences each to explain them. Happy reading!

Weekly carry layout of fountain pens.

Leonardo x Stiloestile Prisma -M italic by Galen Leather- Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare: This pen used to have an elastic F nib that I got in the same rainbow finish, turns out I’m not the biggest fan. A favourite ink and a crisp italic made me rotate this pen more often, leading to colourful writing sessions with an edge of pink sheen.

Montblanc (90’s) 146 -ground to a wet F by Fontoplumo- Troublemaker Milky Ocean: This ink is maybe too dry for this pen, as it has trouble keeping up with the wet flow of the nib for long writing sessions. It’s always a question to pair a wet nib with a dry ink as an attempt to balance it out, or pair it with a wet ink to get a super smooth writing experience.

Pilot Prera -CM- Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Golgrun: I have become a big Pilot fan, as I find myself reaching for both the steel nibs and the gold ones often. This is a newer addition for me, as I wanted to ty out the narrower, sharp italic nib for a while now.

Kaweco AL Sport Paladin Evergreen -F- Taccia Sabimidori: I was unsure whether I liked the AL Sport or not, I don’t have many metal pens and I don’t prefer them over acrylic ones. So far, I’ve been using it often and quite enjoying it too, especially with such a magical ink.

Montblanc (80’s) 146 -F- Parker Quink Blue Black: I had heard great things about the nibs on the 80’s Montblanc’s and this one doesn’t disappoint. A little springy, buttery soft with a hint of feedback makes for a great writing experience, only further enhanced by one of my favourite blue black inks.

Sailor Pro Gear Wisteria -M- Kobe #57 Hime-ajisai (Hydangea): This pen’s nib is on the drier side, and perhaps it would’ve done better with a darker ink. Despite this, I find myself enjoying it as the ink dried a little bit after over a week of being inked and flows ever so slightly darker.

Pilot Decimo -F- Pilot Black: As an attempt to use the black cartridges that come with Pilot pens, I inked this pen up with one, and like it surprisingly much. It’s attached to my planner most of the time to make it easy to jot down appointments or notes.

Kaweco Sport Burgundy -F- Kaweco Royal Blue: Similar to the Decimo above, I am trying to use more cartridges with this one. I regularly put this pen through hell, aka the bottom of my bag, and it marches on despite all the scratches and dings.

The list is written in last year’s Hobonichi Techo.
